Former City of Cape Town MMC for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, has come to the defense of Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille, refuting accusations of racism.
The controversy arose after suspended DA leader in the Eastern Cape, Nqaba Bhanga, took to Facebook, labeling Zille as the most racist person and accusing her of collaborating with the ANC to undermine him.
Suspension Notice Issued to Bhanga
In response to Bhanga’s Facebook post, the DA leader in the Eastern Cape, Andrew Whitfield, confirmed that Bhanga had been served with a notice of intention to suspend him from the party.
Whitfield expressed his bewilderment at Bhanga’s decision to air false claims on social media instead of addressing them within the party’s internal structures.
He noted that this incident is part of a larger pattern of destructive behavior by Bhanga, despite previous attempts by the party leadership to support him.
Booi Defends Zille
Formerly suspended by City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, Malusi Booi voiced his support for Helen Zille.
Booi, who had worked closely with Zille, asserted that she is far from being a racist and instead described her as firm and decisive.
He encouraged Bhanga to peacefully join ActionSA, a political party, without attacking the DA.
