The beloved canines of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, may be taken in by The Duke of York.

The Queen was widely known for her affection for corgis and owned more than 30 of them throughout her reign.

She left behind at least four dogs when she passed away in Scotland’s Balmoral Castle, according to The Washington Post: a dorgi, two Pembroke Welsh corgis, and a cocker spaniel.

Her two corgis are called Muick and Sandy, her old dorgi is named Candy, and her cocker spaniel is named Lissy.

The Times claims that when the late Prince Philip was in the hospital, Queen Elizabeth received a present from Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie: a mug.

On what would have been Prince Philip’s birthday in June, Prince Andrew gifted her a second corgi named Sandy.

The four canines’ fate and destination are unknown, although royal biographer Ingrid Seward told Newsweek they would probably travel to the Queen’s children.

The corgi and the dorgi, which were given to her when they were puppies, “I assume the dogs would be cared after by the family, perhaps Andrew,” Seward told the publication.

She told The Times that she felt the same way, stating, “They should return to Andrew, since it would make the most sense. He would be more than pleased to take care of them.

He doesn’t have anything else to do, let’s face it. He would be quite honoured to do that, in my opinion.”

When Insider contacted Buckingham Palace and the Duke of York for comment, neither party responded right away.

According to the BBC, Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong affection for corgis started in 1933 when, at the age of 7, she was introduced to the breed by a childhood friend.

A corgi called Dookie was shortly brought home by her father, King George VI, for Queen Elizabeth.

On her 18th birthday, she was subsequently given Susan, a Pembroke Welsh corgi. All of the royal corgis that stood by Queen Elizabeth over the years were decedents of Susan.

Nearly 60 corgis and five dorgis were shown to be derived from the dog in Susan’s genealogy tree, which was revealed by the BBC.

Before she turned 92 in 2018, Queen Elizabeth II’s last corgi, Willow, passed away. When Willow passed away, the Queen was greatly devastated, a source informed Mail Online at the time.

She has grieved the loss of each of her corgis throughout the years, but Willow’s passing has caused her the most grief of any, the insider added.

“It’s possibly because Willow was her sole remaining connection to her parents and a pasttime from her own youth. It really has the air of the end of an era.”

When her dogs passed away in 2015, Queen Elizabeth II reportedly ceased breeding corgis or getting new ones.

According to the publication, Queen Elizabeth II started to worry that she would trip over the smaller canines and be hurt.
