Aaron Motsoaledi would recruit 10,000 graduates to digitise municipal documents

Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, the minister of home affairs, said on Thursday that his office plans to hire 10,000 jobless recent graduates for the digitalization of its paper records.

President Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement about the digitization of civic services records during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 10, 2022.

Motsoaledi said that the department possesses more than 350 million paper records of births, marriages, deaths, and modifications while speaking to the media in Pretoria.

“The category of documents spans 1895, necessitating attention and trustworthy methods that can withstand digitization goals.

The majority of these records are in Gauteng, the North West, and the Western Cape, however they are found in all provinces.

According to Motsoaledi, his agency is using technology more and more to enhance both the security of papers and the services it provides to the public.

According to Motsoaledi, the department is looking for jobless youngsters who have degrees in information technology or document, information, and records management from colleges and universities (universities, universities of technologies and technical vocational education and training colleges).

Stipends for successful young people range from R5 000 for entry-level jobs to R9 500 for technical support jobs and R14 250 for management jobs.

A three-year contract tied to the project’s lifespan will be required of this cohort.

According to Motsoaledi, the project would last three years, from November 2022 to October 2025.

Young graduates who are jobless will be hired in conjunction with the Department of Employment and Labor.

There will be many stages to the recruiting process.

Phase 1 will include hiring the first group of 2000 jobless young graduates.

As of tomorrow, August 12, 2022, the advertisements for this phase will be accessible. This cohort will start working on November 1st, 2022.

In phase 2, another 4,000 jobless young graduates will be hired. This phase’s advertisements will run in October 2022. This group will start working in January 2023.

A last and additional round of hiring for 4 000 jobless young graduates will take place in phase 3. This phase’s advertisements will run between December 2022 and January 2023. This group will start working in April 2023.

Through the websites of the Department of Employment and Labor and Home Affairs, interested parties may register and submit applications online.

Motsoaledi said that 60% of the intake would be young women and 40% will be young men in honour of the heroines of the 1956 march to the Union Buildings and since it is Women’s Month.

“To support the training of these recruits, the department will work in collaboration with pertinent stakeholders.

“Training provided will be applicable to the duties they are hired to do.

To improve their employability and/or provide them the opportunity to take advantage of entrepreneurial possibilities outside of the project, ongoing learning and development interventions will be offered, according to Motsoaledi.
