Sydney Lima, 27, and her boyfriend Kieran Walsh stumbled upon a three-story house in Jersey City that was cheaper than most apartments while looking for a new place to live.
After booking a viewing in February 2022, they discovered that the entire house was filled from floor to ceiling with porn, bibles, and other clutter, which the previous owner had left behind.
Both Lima and Walsh had to tip-toe their way through three-foot-high stacks of clutter in the two-bedroom home, and there wasn’t an inch of the house that wasn’t full.
The couple made at least 20 trips to a local shop, rehoming several truckloads of the hoarder’s books.
According to Lima, the man was an ironic hoarder who had kept every single piece of mail he had ever received, and he loved both his faith and porn.
Lima and Walsh started the process of clearing out the stacks in April 2022. They began with mail, books, trash, and various other items, which consumed a year’s worth of arduous work.
Lima said they first went to the local shop with truckloads of books and saved some records, glasses, and vintage Playbill covers to use as decoration.
Lima said she loved the process and was excited to move in later this month. She gushed about how lucky she was to have this treasure of all this stuff inside and to see a glimpse into the past, adding that they built their home with their hands.
