A stunned angler lands a golden fish with a “genetic mutation” that has never been seen before.

This angler claimed to have never “seen anything like it before” after catching a “very unusual” fish.

In preparation for a competition, Jacob Moore was fishing in the James River in Virginia, US, when he retrieved the peculiar-looking fish, which turned out to be a golden largemouth bass.

He remembered, “I was out there training for a tournament, catching a lot of fish.”

I initially believed I had a saltwater fish on when I hooked into that one, but lo and behold, it was a largemouth!

“But, a very different largemouth. That is something I have never seen before.

Moore claimed that the animal’s yellow hue was what made it so distinctive and said he had “never” seen a largemouth bass with this coloring.

He continued, “I’ve seen black-spotted bass, but I’ve never seen an albino one.

The animal’s striking golden coloring resulted from a genetic mutation, according to Alex McCrickard, aquatic education coordinator for the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).

Even the most ardent fishermen may not have ever heard of this bizarre occurrence, much less seen it in person.

Golden largemouth bass are incredibly uncommon, and the majority of fisherman have never ever heard of them, according to McCrickard.

The fish is a result of a genetic abnormality known as xanthism, which modifies the skin colours. As shown in Moore’s golden largemouth, xanthism is characterized by a predominance of yellow coloring.

Moore claimed to have measured the fish at 16 12 inches, taken a few photos of his extraordinary find, and then put it back in the water where he had discovered it.

The largemouth bass is a freshwater fish that may be found all throughout the US. It is typically recognized by its green scales, black markings, and light belly.

Josh Rogers, a fisherman from Beaver Lake, Arkansas, caught another golden largemouth in 2021.

At the time, state biologist Jon Stein remarked, “Josh has to buy a lottery ticket because he just got one fish in a million,” regarding the discovery.
