A plastic surgeon claims that running makes people age faster

Dr. Gerald Imber, an 82-year-old plastic surgeon who specializes in procedures for the face and body, has a surprising warning about what exercise can age a person faster – running. In a viral TikTok video, he stated that running a bit every day and a few miles every other day is fine, but anything more than that is too much.

According to the doctor, not only does running affect facial features, but it also takes a disastrous toll on other parts of the body, including the knees, ankles, and back.

Despite all the negative effects that running can have on a body, the doctor admitted there are benefits to the exercise. Still, he reiterates that, like everything, it should be done in moderation. Dr. Imber recommends no-impact or low-impact aerobics as the way to get exercise.

The subject of “runner’s face” has long been argued among experts. Triathlete Dr. Kiya Movassaghi said that the appearance is caused by having a lean body and constantly being exposed to the sun.

As we age, our skin produces less collagen and elastin, and exposure to UV rays speeds up this process.

Many TikTok users ran to comment on the video, which has racked up nearly 2 million views since it was posted last month. While some joked about not having to be told twice, others agreed with Dr. Imber and claimed to be personal trainers who recommended low-impact aerobics.

Some users shared their own humorous take on running, with one saying they only run if something is coming, and if you see them running, you should run too.
