A nine-year-old child died from “neglect” mother and grandmother jailed

After a nine-year-old child died from a severe case of head lice, her mother and grandmother were both jailed on suspicion of murder.

Sandra Kraykovich and Elizabeth Kraykovich who are 38 and 64 years old respectively, were both charged with the unnamed child’s killing.

Emergency responders arrived at their home in Tucson, Arizona, on June 22 and found the girl unresponsive with ‘a large amount of bugs on her face,’ according to court filings.

‘Upon closer inspection, it was discovered there was an enormous amount of lice in her hair,’ they added.

Authorities claim the mother’s text conversations show she was aware of her daughter’s illness, according to Law and Crime.

On March 14 and 15, she texted her partner about the problem, then on March 21, she said, ‘OMG babe. Listen I’m in my room and my mother called me…was asking that I could check on her to ensure that she isn’t dying.’

Despite her boyfriend’s instructions, she did not take the girl to the hospital, according to police.

One of her older children stated she used mouthwash to treat the lice.

The grandmother is also charged because she was reportedly aware of the seriousness of the situation.

She considered phoning 911 but decided against it, and texted Sandra that the girl ‘can’t go to the ER with her hair, but that’s left to me because you not home.’

The girl died of anaemia, which was linked to an infection caused by a head lice infestation, according to an autopsy.

Malnutrition was also discovered to be a contributing cause.

The Pima County Medical Examiner determined that the girl died as a result of neglect.

Sandra’s other two older children, who also had lice, were placed in the care of their family members after the two women were arrested.
