Cafe owner Miguel Dantas De Sa jailed for nine years after he was found guilty of two counts of rape of young employee on a trial shift. He and his family now faces deportation from Australia

After being found guilty of two counts of rape, a former café manager who was already a convicted child sex offender was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Miguel Dantas De Sa, a 32-year-old Portuguese immigrant, appeared in court on Tuesday in Adelaide.

De Sa was given a five-year, six-month sentence without the possibility of parole.

He will be available for release in late 2025 after serving his sentence, at which point he and his family would probably be deported, according to The Advertiser.

De Sa, according to Judge Allen, displayed little sorrow or understanding of his acts.

The victim applied for a job at his café in January 2020, and over the following several days, he messaged her inviting her back for a trial shift.

De Sa promised to show her how to mix drinks and pour beers.

It was reported that De Sa invited the young girl out for another drink after spending hours creating and tasting cocktails.

The girl felt “extremely drunk” towards the end of the night as a result of the experience.

The youngster claimed she had recollections of being molested and that she had woken up in a strange bedroom.

De Sa claimed to have driven the small child to an Uber and then sent her home, where the driver and the girl’s parents had to help the child out of the vehicle.

Judge Allen rejected his claim that he had been careless about whether the victim was or was not consenting to sexual activity.

You took your barely conscious victim to an Uber, which is persuasive proof that you knew she had no way of consenting, according to Judge Allen.

While De Sa was out on bail and awaiting prosecution for a related offence, this crime was committed.

He pushed a 16-year-old waitress to expose herself and offered her money to have sex with him at a café in Adelaide on November 12, 2016, leading to his conviction and two and a half years in prison.

De Sa asked the young girl if she would have sex with him for $200 after cornering her in a cool, sealed room with him.

The youngster forced her to pull down her pants after insisting that she needed to return to work, and he caught her by her underpants.

She again declined his offer after sending him a message asking him to rethink it, but he afterwards enquired as to what size underwear she was wearing.

De Sa earlier pleaded with the court not to imprison him since doing so may result in the deportation of his entire family because their visas depend on the “good character” clause in his own.
