A mountain lion has been apprehended inside a California high school.

Before being confined in a classroom, a mountain lion slipped into a California high school, startling students and instructors.

The strange incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday at Pescadero High School, according to The Mercury News.

The mountain lion, later identified as a cub by authorities, entered the school grounds before classes began.

The lion’s door was sealed and authorities were notified. The lion was found under a desk in an English classroom, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities confirmed in a tweet that students and employees were safely removed from the school.

The lion was eventually confined in one of the classrooms, NBC reported.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived around 9:30 a.m. to the school.

‘They are currently formulating a plan to safely and humanely release the animal back into wild,’ the Sheriff’s Office said.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office later made light of the unusual incident, when students and staff at the school had been removed from the classrooms.

‘Word is that the mountain lion who entered the English classroom at Pescadero High School this meowrning was there to a-paw-logize and paw-sibly ask for a paw-don to turn in its hiss-tory pay-purr a day late,’ the department wrote on Facebook.

‘Staff at the school tell us that the entry to the school was a very claw-ver way to ask for an extension on the assignment and the request has been denied.
