A former primary school teacher has been charged with multiple historic counts of sexual assault against young boys. The charges relate to alleged incidents that occurred over 30 years ago at a public school in St Ives, located in Sydney’s north.

The 68-year-old man has been charged with 12 offenses, including seven counts of sexual assault (Cat 4) – assault and commit act of indecency, three counts of homosexual intercourse – teacher of pupil, and two counts of buggery. The alleged assaults reportedly took place between 1984 and 1988, while the accused was a teacher at the school and during camping trips.

The victims were three boys, aged between nine and 12 years old at the time.

Strike Force Byanbi was established in June 2022 to investigate the allegations. Following inquiries, the man was arrested at a home in Wagga Wagga on Wednesday. He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with the offenses.

The accused appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday and was formally refused bail. He is set to appear at the same court in April.

Investigations under Strike Force Byanbi are ongoing.
