A $24million luxury home with a tennis court and spectacular harbour views has spectacularly gone up in flames.

The blaze broke out at the mansion on Cliff Road in Northwood, in Sydney’s lower north shore, just after 11pm on Saturday.

More than 30 calls were made to triple-0, with 12 trucks and 50 firefighters racing to the scene where they faced 20-metre high flames.

There were concerns the blaze would spread to neighbouring properties, but emergency crews managed to get the fire under control within about two hours.

Superintendent Tim Hassiotis, from NSW Fire Service, said forensics still don’t know what cause the blaze.

‘At this stage, the investigation is still underway,’ he told 9 News.

‘We’re unable to determine cause and origin until we get investigators in, but we’ll do our best.’

Supt. Hassiotis said the situation emphasised the importance of smoke alarms.

It took emergency workers about two hours to douse the flames. The home was almost completely destroyed

The owners acquired the opulent home in November of last year.

The house, which was first constructed in 1915 out of sandstone, is situated on one acre of ground and has its own basement, orchard, and boathouse.

The Anzac Bridge, Sydney’s central business district, and the Lane Cove River were all visible from there.
