At least 903 individuals have been detained and charged with crimes after supporters of the then-president Donald Trump flocked to the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, putting Congress under lockdown and causing damage to the buildings housing the government.
The FBI is asking for assistance from the general public in locating participants in one of the most extensively studied crimes in US history.
But it’s taking some time to find them since the majority of the rioters were permitted to roam free that day.
The names, charges, court document links, and further story links for every person thus far charged are shown in this table. As additional names and information are disclosed by the Department of Justice, we’ll keep you informed.
So yet, only 376 rioters facing federal charges have pleaded guilty.
As FBI officials examine video evidence, social media postings, phone location information, and suggestions from the public, the number of persons accused in the uprising is anticipated to keep rising.
Democratic lawmakers asked for a bipartisan commission to look at the Capitol riot in a manner similar to that done after 9/11, but Senate Republicans rejected the effort.
On June 30, 2021, the House of Representatives narrowly decided to establish a commission. The only Republicans on the panel are Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
The Republican Party will conduct its own probe into January 6, 2021, according to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
The House Select Committee to Investigate the Attack on the United States Capitol was established, and since then, it has conducted hundreds of interviews, served dozens of subpoenas, and gone over thousands of documents pertaining to the riots.
On June 9, 2022, the committee set its first hearing to present its conclusions.
The Department of Justice unveiled an indictment against Elmer Stewart Rhodes, the Oath Keepers’ leader, and 10 allies on January 13, 2022, accusing them of “seditious conspiracy,” the most serious accusation brought against any accused Capitol rioters to yet.
After less than four hours of deliberation, the jury in the first jury trial involving the Capitol riots found rioter Guy Reffitt guilty on each of the five charges he was charged with. US prosecutors said that Reffitt arrived to the Capitol with a firearm and flex cuffs but left without going inside.
