33 years old Ernst and Young worker found dead on the company’s premises

A 33-year-old female employee of accounting major Ernst & Young was discovered dead on the company’s premises after returning from an after-hours drinking session.

Saturday at 12:20 a.m., police and emergency services were sent to the company’s premises on George St in central Sydney, where they discovered the woman’s body.

At 5.30 p.m., the employee proceeded to the Ivy nightclub in Sydney’s Central Business District for work-related beverages, before departing two hours later to return to the office.

The Australian claimed that an examination of surveillance video did not reveal the lady to be visibly drunk. Police refused to comment more on the event.

August is the busiest auditing month for employees of one of the “big four” accounting companies, such as Ernst & Young.

This may put auditors under a great deal of stress, especially if they have already worked long hours to meet deadlines.

As a result of the tragedy, the company will begin a ‘comprehensive and wide-ranging internal review encompassing health and safety, security, social events as they relate to our staff,’ EY CEO and Regional Managing Partner David Larocca said in a statement.

‘Our Chief Mental Health Officer will be part of an ongoing review and has been instrumental over the weekend in providing ongoing advice and guidance.’

Staff are being offered support to deal with their shock and grief.

‘Counselling has been offered to all staff and team members,’ Mr Larocca said.

‘We have an established Employee Assistance Program that’s available 24/7 to our people and their families, as well as onsite counselling services.

‘We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events of the weekend.’

The company is now supporting authorities with their continuing investigation, although the matter is not being seen as suspicious.

Mr. Larocca said, “Our hearts go out to the family, and we have contacted out to offer our support and condolences.”

The Coroner will be provided with a report.
