2030 World Cup: Egypt, Greece, and Suadi Arabia plan to co-host

An Egyptian official said in public comments on Friday that negotiations are underway for Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The three nations are “working really hard,” according to Mohammed Fawzi, spokesperson for the sports ministry, who also said that “the application to organise (the 2030 World Cup) is being considered.”

He emphasised that his nation has held several global championships over the previous three years and said that Egypt would be “one of the greatest nations” to organise such a sporting event.

The three nations were in talks about submitting a combined candidacy to host the 2030 World Cup, according to a source at the Hellenic Football Federation of Greece, who spoke to AFP in Athens.

In order to avoid the severe temperatures in the three nations, like with this year’s World Cup in Qatar, the tournament, if successful, would be hosted in the northern winter, according to a Thursday story from the British daily The Times.

There are at least two more combined bids that Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia will have to contend with.

Early in August, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay confirmed their intention to bid to host the 2030 World Cup, while Spain and Portugal revealed their combined candidacy last year.

The united South American candidacy seeks to hold the 2030 championship game at Montevideo’s Centenario stadium, which hosted the inaugural title game a century ago.

The 2030 tournament host will be decided by Fifa, the governing body of world football, in 2024.
