According to sources, a 13-year-old Palestinian teenager was responsible for a shooting that injured two persons in East Jerusalem on Saturday, a day after an attack that killed seven.

In the Saturday attack, a father and son were gravely hurt, while the youngster was shot and injured by bystanders and is presently being held in a hospital.

The “terrorist” is being treated at the hospital, according to Dean Elsdunne, a spokeswoman for the Israeli police.

Saturday’s shooting in the Silwan area just outside Jerusalem’s Old City followed Friday’s shooting at a synagogue, in which seven people were killed. At least three persons were injured in the shooting, and 42 people were arrested in connection with the incident.

Israeli worshippers were leaving a Neve Yaakov area synagogue after attending Friday services when a shooter opened fire on them. Authorities fatally shot the gunman.

Following the attack, militant Palestinian groups congratulated the gunman, but did not claim credit for it.

Since Israeli troops killed nine Palestinians, both terrorists and civilians, in Jenin in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, tensions have increased. According to accounts, the strike was followed by rocket fire from Gaza into Israel.
