10th session of International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace discusses global food security challenges

RABAT, 14th July, 2022 (WAM) — The 10th session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace was held today by the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat, featuring the participation of 80 parliamentarians from around the world, with the second day of the session to be held in Dakhla.

The session was attended by Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace; Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives; Anam Mayara, Speaker of the House of Councillors of Morocco; Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; Margarita Restrepo, President of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace; Al Asri Saeed Ahmed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Morocco, and several ambassadors and diplomats accredited to Morocco.

In his opening speech, Al Jarwan said that the world is facing security challenges and economic crises threatening global food security, in addition to climate change. He noted that it is everyone’s duty as champions of peace and community representatives to address these challenges. He also called for intensifying efforts to resolve all conflicts through peaceful means and end violence across the world.

Moreover, he called for establishing new partnerships between countries, governments, and national, regional, international and parliamentary entities to address the global food crisis and extremism, discrimination, hatred and terrorism.

Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, welcomed the holding of the 10th session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace in Morocco. Alami highlighted Morocco’s keenness to promote principles of peace and tolerance and affirmed that, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the country has strengthened its active role in the efforts to reinforce global peace.

The second day of the 10th session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace will be held in Dakhla city, on 15th July, 2022, and will discuss global food security challenges, energy issues, and conflict resolution through dialogue.
