On Tuesday, it was alleged that three times as many E. coli illnesses as had been officially recorded had occurred, with the epidemic being linked to Wendy’s sandwiches.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 10 of the 37 confirmed infected individuals required hospitalisation.

The CDC stated: “A single item has not yet been identified as the cause of this epidemic, although a number of affected persons reported eating romaine lettuce sandwiches at Wendy’s restaurants in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania before becoming ill.”

However, it was revealed on Tuesday that at least 100 individuals have been unwell, and some of them have filed lawsuits.

43 of the 98 instances are connected to Wendy’s cuisine. Results for the remaining patients are awaited.

According to specialists interviewed by The New York Post, there have been more than 100 instances linked to the fast food business overall.

Three to four days after consuming the E. coli-contaminated food, victims develop stomach pain, diarrhoea, fever, and vomiting.

Despite noting that the salads employ different mixtures, Wendy’s said on Friday that they are eliminating the romaine lettuce from certain of its locations.

The firm said, “We are taking the precaution of changing the sandwich lettuce at select locations in that area.”

Three Michigan consumers and five Ohio residents have so far filed lawsuits against Wendy’s related to the incident.

Following two hospitalizations for severe diarrhoea and blood in her stool earlier this month, Sara Boren of Bowling Green, Ohio, sued Wendy’s on Monday.

On August 1, she had placed an order for a Dave’s Single hamburger, cheese fries, and a Jr. Chocolate Frosty.

Since July 31 at least 22 E. coli illnesses have been reported to the local health department in her area, Wood County.

Willam Marler, who is the attorney for the victims from Michigan, predicted that the number of cases will rise.

According to him, 200 individuals should get ill during the next several days, according to The New York Post.
