Zoe Ball, a popular 52-year-old DJ for BBC Radio 2, was scheduled to host coverage of the Coronation Concert in Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

The concert was designed to celebrate the coronation of King and Queen and other members of the royal family, which took place the day before at Westminster Abbey.

Unfortunately, Zoe Ball had to withdraw from the event due to illness, much to her disappointment.

In her stead, Scott Mills and Dermot O’Leary hosted the show, speaking to the crowd and performers before the concert began.

A Star-Studded Event

The Coronation Concert featured a wide variety of performances from famous artists like Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, and more.

Classical acts such as Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, and Lang Lang also performed, and there were spoken-word performances by Sonam Kapoor and Stella McCartney.

The Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal College of Music, and the Royal College of Art also collaborated to create a one-of-a-kind performance for the occasion.

A Spectacular Stage

The concert took place on the East Lawn of Windsor Castle, where a spectacular Union flag-shaped stage was constructed.

The stage was surrounded by a halo-like screen, symbolizing the Crown’s protection of the nation, and the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra was positioned behind the stage.

There were also four additional catwalks, and the parapet wall steps in the middle allowed the 74-piece classical ensemble to create an abstracted Union flag.

The Concert Broadcast

The Coronation Concert was broadcast on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2, and BBC Sounds on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 8 pm.

It was an unforgettable celebration of the royal family’s coronation, featuring top-notch performers, stunning visual effects, and a world-class orchestra.
