Zim court orders DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small’s arrest


Pretoria – The High Court of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo has issued an arrest order for prominent South African musicians Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa for failing to perform at a concert arranged in the neighboring nation.

In response to an application by Vic Falls Carnival Private Limited, a “writ for personal attachment and commitment to prison” was issued against Petrus Kabelo Motha, nicknamed Kabza De Small, and Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, or DJ Maphorisa.

The document seen by IOL reads, in part, “To the sheriff for Zimbabwe and all constables and other peace officers whom it may concern… whereas an order was made by the Honorable Mr Justice Dube-Banda ordering the arrest of the first and second respondents and committing them to prison to confirm the respondents’ jurisdiction.”

“Now, therefore, you are needed and commanded to surrender Petrus Kabelo Motha and Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe to the keeper of the prison at Bulawayo Prison, along with a copy of this writ, there to be safely held until they are served with the summons issued against them by the High Court in Bulawayo…”

According to the court, a claim for $18,395 has been lodged against the artists.

According to reports, the duo was scheduled to perform at the Victoria Falls Carnival, but they did not attend and have not offered any refunds.

The two reportedly performed in Bulawayo over the weekend, as reported by the media. According to reports, they are holed up at a Bulawayo hotel.

Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa have been issued an arrest warrant by the High Court of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.
