With effect from today, the Department of Home Affairs has announced the extension of operating hours at some of its offices to 6pm for the application and collection of Smart ID cards and passports

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that as of right now, applications for and pick-up of passports and Smart ID cards would be accepted from some of its locations until 6 p.m.

“Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Home Affairs, has approved extending the operating hours at a few offices nationwide from today through July 15th, 2022, by two hours, to 6 p.m.

This is just for applying for and picking up passports and Smart ID cards.

Weekends are not included in the extended hours of operation, the department stated on Thursday.

In order to accommodate the anticipated rise in demand for ID and passport services over the winter break, operating hours have been extended.

“This addition is essential for the provision of services. We use a variety of tactics to reduce long lines at our offices while making sure that everyone gets the necessary documents they apply for.

Every client who is present at these particular offices at the time of closing will be attended to, according to Motsoaledi.

The Department of Home Affairs notices an uptick in demand for its goods during school breaks, particularly from parents who are filing for various enabling documents for their kids.

The government has urged parents to arrange their visits to Home Affairs offices via the Branch Appointment Booking System at convenient times for them.
