Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro wants his team to feel they are still in the running for the PSL championship.

Rieveiro believes that anything is possible between now and the end of the season, and that his side still has a chance.

Riveiro retains optimism despite Orlando Pirates’ 21-point deficit to PSL leaders and defending champions Sundowns.

Jose Riveiro, head coach of Orlando Pirates, during the 2022 Carling Black Label Cup Final against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium in Nasrec on November 12, 2022.

“Everyone experiences both positive and negative events throughout the season. This week, during a news conference, the Bucs’ head coach stated, “The ultimate victor is the one who is able to succeed when others are not performing at their best.”

“At the present, a team (Sundowns, who have won 10 consecutive games) is gaining a tremendous advantage over its rivals; it will be exceedingly difficult for us to catch up to them. Are we giving up? Never.

There is a competition here. We are competitive individuals who will never give up, and I believe neither will SuperSport (United), Kaizer Chiefs, or anyone else. It is a competition, and we will go all the way to the finish.”

As the Pirates attempt to claw their way back to the top, Riveiro argues that one game at a time is the only viable approach.

“The current objective is to acquire the following three points. “I’m trying to concentrate on the next game for us, so I have no idea who is second, third, or fourth,” Riveiro stated.

Orlando Pirates host Golden Arrows at 15:30 on Saturday, January 14, 2023, in the DStv Premiership.
