White House criticises Republicans who had PPP loans forgiven

Republican congressmen who opposed President Joe Biden’s student loan scheme yet accepted government handouts by having Paycheck Protection Program loans cancelled were publicly ridiculed on Thursday night on the White House Twitter account.

The White House highlighted a Newsmax tape of Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene lamenting that it was “absolutely unjust” that taxpayers were bearing the burden of “huge large student loan debt for some college kid who piled up massive debt going to some Ivy League school.”

News secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned the PPP programme, which began under previous President Donald Trump, during Wednesday’s press conference, and observed that Republicans weren’t angry about government help then.

The GOP Reps were criticised on Twitter by the White House.

Vern Buchanan, Matt Gaetz, Markwayne Mullin, Kevin Hern, and Mike Kelly.

Gaetz opposed the White House delivering further $3 billion in help to Ukraine to strengthen its forces against Russia’s incursion in instead of student loans.

The White House reported that the Florida lawmaker had “$482,321 in PPP loans forgiven.”

Kelly, a Republican from Pennsylvania, had almost $1 million in PPP loans cancelled ($987,237) and tweeted that asking plumbers and carpenters to pay for the loans of Wall Street consultants and lawyers isn’t simply unfair. And it’s horrible policy.

Biden offers student loan bailout as national debt increases, according to a Fox News piece he had forwarded.

More than $1 million in PPP loans were forgiven for Hern, Mullin, and Buchanan, with Buchanan receiving the most amount at more than $2.3 million.

Mullin wrote, “We do not need farmers and ranchers, small business owners, and teachers in Oklahoma paying the bills of Ivy League lawyers and doctors throughout the United States.”

“Over $1.4 million in PPP loans” were forgiven for him.

PPP loans owed by Hern were erased for more than $1 million.

To summarise, the Oklahoma Republican had tweeted, “To reiterate, in the last two weeks, the “Party of the People” has supercharged the IRS to go after working-class Americans, hiked their taxes, and forced them to pay for other people’s college degrees.”

Many Biden supporters responded to the message by posting “dark Brandon” memes, which are images of Biden with glowing eyes designed to depict him as a supernatural force. They were amazed that the official White House Twitter account would take on Republicans so brazenly.

Others, however, emphasised that PPP loans were not necessarily intended to line the owners’ coffers; rather, they were meant to assist business owners in meeting their payment commitments during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Biden’s plan, debtors with incomes under $125,000 will have $10,000 in student loan debt forgiven, and if they used Pell Grants to pay for education, that amount will increase to $20,000 in total.
