Which? Travel’s Survey Reveals the UK’s Best and Worst Seaside Towns

A recent survey conducted by Which? Travel has revealed the UK’s 10 worst seaside towns based on feedback from over 3,000 respondents on their experiences at coastal locations in the last year.

Skegness and Clacton-on-Sea were ranked as the worst, with respondents criticizing them for their dirty streets and the unappealing state of the sea.

Negative Reviews for Skegness

According to the survey, Skegness received several negative reviews on Tripadvisor.

While some visitors praised the town for its great beach, old-fashioned charm, and popularity with families, others described it as a ‘hole’ with dirty streets, potholed roads, and the sea having a brown froth on top.

However, Skegness did receive some positive feedback for the beach, with one visitor rating it 5 out of 5 for its cleanliness, ease of access, and pet-friendliness.

Negative Reviews for Clacton-on-Sea

Clacton-on-Sea also received harsh criticism from respondents, with one review slamming the toilets to be found by the beach, claiming they found ‘poo on the floor and walls’ at various toilets along the seafront.

Despite the negative feedback, Clacton-on-Sea received some positive reviews for the beach and its family-friendly facilities, such as parking, food and drink venues, and kid-friendly attractions.

Other Seaside Towns Included in the Survey

Other seaside towns included in the survey’s worst list are Burnham-on-Sea, Bangor, Mablethorpe, Bognor Regis, Great Yarmouth, Colwyn Bay, Southend-on-Sea, and Morecambe.

Best Seaside Town

Bamburgh in Northumberland was ranked as the UK’s best seaside town for the third year in a row.

Its beautiful beach, ancient castle, and classic seaside charm won over respondents.
