Westminster Police have set up a safety cordon in Whitehall because of a suspicious package 

Following allegations of a suspicious item, City of Westminster Police have set up a safety cordon in Whitehall and the surrounding area.
A police barrier has been erected around the Westminster scene.
The public has been requested to ‘please bear with us’ as the police investigate the event.

Police have blocked access to Parliament Street and Trafalgar Square amid reports of a controlled explosion.
‘Police were summoned at 11:27 a.m. on Tuesday, 7 June to complaints of a suspicious parcel located at Parliament Street,’ a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman told the Standard.

‘Officers are on the site, and safety cordons and closures have been erected while investigations are carried out.’

Officers are said to have deployed a bomb disposal robot to the location, along with firemen.

A controlled explosion has also been reported by witnesses.
