West End star Ruthie Henshall is set to make an appearance on Coronation Street next week in the role of Estelle, an old friend of Glenda Shuttleworth, played by fellow stage actress Jodie Prenger.
The first meeting between Estelle and George Shuttleworth, Glenda’s brother, involves a disagreement over the cost of Estelle’s mother’s funeral.
However, Estelle and Glenda hit it off and reminisce about working together on cruise ships. Estelle then tries to convince Glenda to invest in her theatre school franchise, Little Big Shotz.
But the offer ignites a dispute in Weatherfield, as George offers to assist his sister with financial backing, which leaves Eileen unhappy. Henshall’s debut on Coronation Street will be on April 3.
The actress said she is delighted to play the role and cannot believe she is finally getting to appear on the show, which has been part of her life for many years.
She also mentioned that getting to work with Jodie Prenger was a joy, and she was welcomed and treated kindly by the cast.
Henshall has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and has appeared in numerous West End productions, including Cats, Miss Saigon, Crazy For You, She Loves Me, Marguerite, Oliver!, A Chorus Line, Les Miserables, Billy Elliot, and Chicago.
