Water-main breach floods NYC subways, streets

Sunday, a broken water main in SoHo inundated a subway station and its surrounding streets, causing several trains to be suspended.

“At about 10:41 a.m., New York City Transit staff saw water on the 1/2/3 line near Canal Street due to a broken water main,” MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said in a statement.

Photos reveal that the Canal Street Station near Broadway in Manhattan was flooded, as did other surrounding streets.

As a result, No. 3 train service was suspended, No. 1 train service was discontinued between South Ferry and 14th Street, and No. 2 trains were operating in both directions on the No. 5 line between Nevins Street in Brooklyn and 149th Street-Grand Concourse in The Bronx.
