WATCH: ‘Shaka Illembe’ teaser delivers world-class production

One of the most anticipated trailers for the upcoming historical series “Shaka Illembe” has been released, and it is phenomenal.

Nomzamo Mbatha, South Africa’s golden girl, plays Queen Nandi alongside Lemogang Tsipa (adult King Shaka), Thembinkosi Mthembu as King Dingiswayo, and newcomer Ntandi Zondi as boy Shaka. The show is scheduled to premiere in the middle of 2023.

Mbatha furthermore serves as the series’ executive producer.

“Shaka Ilembe” is set in the 1700s and follows the development of the renowned African king from infancy through adulthood.

Consultation with historians, academics, and family descendants, including the current King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and the late King Goodwill Zwelithini, took six years.

The teaser depicts princess Nandi ready to be wed, but Nandi desires the freedom to pick her own spouse. Contrary to her tribe, she sleeps with another Zulu man.

She is informed that she has “dishonored” her tribe.

The trailer depicts some steamy sexual moments, after which Nandi gives birth to Shaka, the Zulu prince destined to govern the tribe one day.

It also depicts a mischievous youngster named Shaka who becomes a warrior, fights battles, and is eventually prepared to rule his father’s people.

The series offers tremendous levels of excitement, with love, sorrow, betrayal, hope, friendship, and battle all featuring prominently in this extraordinary tale.

The production gives world-class value to the audience, a factor that may often make or break a show.

Adze Ugah, the director of “Shaka Illembe,” stated, “Almost everyone is familiar with the story of Shaka, but it was a joy to capture the in-between moments.”

Mbatha, who is honored to lead the group, remarked, “Playing this woman means so much to so many.” I am most thrilled to be creating history.”
