WA Premier Mark McGowan’s assassin is back in jail

A Perth man who reportedly called for the violent takeover of the government and threatened to murder Premier Mark McGowan is back in jail after allegedly setting up new social media accounts.

As part of a bail compliance check, counterterrorism police reportedly looked through Jamon Allan Hartzer’s phone and discovered proof of the profiles.

According to federal police, he was detained on September 7 and released on remand to appear in a Perth magistrates court on Friday.

In the midst of a contentious discussion regarding COVID-19 limits, vaccination requirements, and border closures, 43-year-old Hartzer was detained in October 2021 for reportedly threatening a number of public figures, including Mr. McGowan.

Four offences, including making threats to murder, hurt, or damage anybody and encouraging violence against the constitution, are brought against the Perth man.

The second offence is actively encouraging people to use force or violence to overturn the federal constitution or governments. Seven years in prison is the maximum sentence.

According to federal authorities, the Hartzer inquiry does not pose a continuing danger to the neighbourhood.

Death threats against Mr. McGowan and his colleagues forced him to shut his constituency office in November.
