Vote for Liz Truss or lose. Senior Tories back new leader

Senior Conservatives asked MPs to rally around Liz Truss last night, or risk losing the upcoming general election.

Outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson also called for the party to come together behind Liz Truss

Following an arduous eight-week leadership contest, Boris Johnson and his predecessors led a cacophony of appeals for the party to unite.

The outgoing prime minister stated, “I am confident that she has the correct strategy to address the cost of living crisis, unify our party, and continue the wonderful task of uniting and balancing our nation.” Now is the moment for all Conservatives to fully support her.’

Sir Iain Duncan Smith, a former leader of the Conservative Party, warned that if infighting persists, the party would be ‘finished’ “This party now realizes that unless it unites and provides her support, or it is finished,” he stated on LBC radio.

Liz Truss was named the new leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister. Senior Conservative lawmakers have stated that her support is crucial to the party’s future.

Theresa May and David Cameron, both former prime ministers, have endorsed Liz Truss and urged others to do the same.

Sir Iain Duncan Smith, a former leader of the Conservative Party, warned that the party would be “dead” if infighting persists.

“It’s the unity of the grave: you’re staring into the grave, and either you stay together or you’ll be in it.

This is one of the most motivating aspects of the fact that you have 18 months and we don’t have time for arguments, noises, and complaints.

David Cameron and Theresa May, both former prime leaders, also urged all Conservative lawmakers to support Ms. Truss.

Mrs. May stated that Conservatives “must now collaborate to overcome the difficulties facing our nation.” Mr. Cameron stated, “I will never forget the support I had from all former Conservative leaders in 2005, and I hope that all Conservatives will unite behind the incoming prime minister.”

Supporters of Rishi Sunak encouraged Ms. Truss to appoint his supporters to top ministerial roles in order to unite both camps, lest she be voted out of office by Christmas.

They cautioned that a somewhat tight mandate from the party membership would make it “exceptional” not to give “a welcome hand in her Cabinet to at least a few opponents.” One commented, “That is political naivete, and it will bite her very, very rapidly – as if she didn’t have enough difficulties now.”

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson also urged the party to unite around Elizabeth Truss.

The representative stated that colleagues believed Miss Truss had made “no effort” to extend a hand of friendship to individuals on the other side.

The supporters said, “Given her very weak position, this demonstrates a massive miscalculation of the strength of the parliamentary party to quickly take away the prize she has just earned.” She must be a college graduate. This is a mutual agreement. She and her staff must collaborate with us just as much as we must collaborate with them.

During the parliamentary phase of the election, the majority of MPs did not support Miss Truss, and former chancellor Mr. Sunak became victorious. And while the 57 percent to 43 percent margin of victory in the ballot of party members is comfortable, it is narrower than the margins of victory in the last three leadership elections decided by vote. Miss Truss appeared to rule out a rapid election despite demands from Labour to do so.

She stated that she would lead the Conservative Party to victory in 2024. This would be earlier than the date specified by law, which is January 23, 2025. A race on the same day as municipal elections on May 2, 2024, would be one alternative. However, this would leave Miss Truss only twenty months between assuming office and facing the electorate.
