Victorians can bank $250 if they shop around for a better energy deal, as the state’s Power Saving Bonus scheme opens for applications

The electricity bill of millions of Australians might be credited with hundreds of dollars.

Many Australian households are finding it difficult to make ends meet as a result of rising gas, electricity, and food prices, which is why state governments are providing the free money.

The energy payment is broken down into the following states:

Victoria

Victorians who shop around for a better energy contract can save $250 because the state’s default offer is increasing due to inflation and rising costs.

According to an expanded state government program, starting on Friday, the one-time Power Saving Bonus will be available to all Victorian homes who compare their energy contract using the Victorian Energy Compare website.

Any home with an energy bill will be eligible for the new payment, which was revealed as part of Victoria’s pre-election state budget in May. People won’t need to switch suppliers to be eligible.

You can instantly reapply if you are one of the nearly 400,000 concession-card holders who received the $250 payout during the previous fiscal year.

On June 30, 2023, applications expire.

According to the government, switching energy offers allowed seven out of ten previous users of the comparison website to save an average of $330 annually.

There are around 2.5 million households in Victoria, and one million people are expected to apply for the program.

After many Victoria freebies were recently beset by website crashes, Premier Daniel Andrews advised Victorians not to “destroy the internet” in a tweet about applying for the new cash offer on Thursday.

Lily D’Ambrosio, the energy minister, is optimistic that the technology will stand up.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP) team has been working frantically to guarantee that we have the procedures necessary to satisfy all of our needs, according to Ms. D’Ambrosio.

She emphasized to Victorians that there is plenty of time to apply because the payout is available for 12 months.

Visit the Victorian Energy Compare website for additional details (the page may take time to view on July 1 due to high-volume traffic).

It happens on the same day that the Victorian Default Offer, which explains to Victorians how much they should be paying for electricity, increases by around 5%.

According to the VDO, the modification will result in yearly bill increases of $61 for homes and $270 for small enterprises.

In order to help struggling Australians cope, several states introduced their own cost-of-living crisis reimbursements to pre-election budgets in response to the rise in gas, electricity, and food costs.

Southwest Australia

Western Australians are eligible for a $400 credit on their electricity bills on Saturday as part of the Synergy Household Electricity Credit program.

The credit will show up on the first electricity bill for residents that is sent on or after July 2nd.

South Australia, New

Households in New South Wales with dependent children will also be qualified for a $180 energy bill credit.

Residents who received Family Tax Benefit (FTB) in the previous fiscal year and had their eligibility for FTB payments finalized by Centrelink are eligible for the NSW Family Energy Rebate.

Applications for the rebate for this fiscal year ended on June 30 but will open again on August 30 for the following fiscal year.

Australia’s South

Those in South Australia who qualify may apply to receive up to $241.63 annually to assist with covering energy expenses, including fuels used to produce energy (eg LPG bottled gas and petrol).

Also submit an application for the SA Concessions Energy Discount Offer if you qualify.

The Residential Park Concessions may be available to residents in residential parks.

Queensland

Pensioners, elders, veterans, and people seeking refuge in Queensland may be eligible for either the Electricity Rebate ($372.20 annually) or the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate ($80.77 annually).

Your charge will be automatically reduced by rebates.

If a resident is interested in applying, they should speak with their gas or electricity provider. They will require copies of their bills and concession card.

Queensland concession card members can also apply for a one-time payment up to $720 every two years under the Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme if they are experiencing an unanticipated energy emergency or a short-term financial problem.

Arctic Territory

For their primary residential household electricity expenditures, members of the Northern Territory (NT) Concession Scheme are eligible to receive up to $1,200 annually.

Territory of Australia

Low income households and users of concession cards are eligible for an annual combined rebate of up to $750 under the ACT Utilities Concession Scheme.

The rebate is calculated daily, with prices varying according to the season, and aids in defraying the costs of electricity, natural gas, water, and sewage.

Tasmania

In Tasmania, holders of concession cards are eligible to apply for annual heating allowances worth $56 and an electricity concession worth $1.40 per day.

Along with offering life support and medical heating/cooling energy concessions, the government also offers a one-time $125 Winter Energy Supplement to eligible concession users.
