“Turn around, don’t drown” – you hear this warning often from National Weather Service authorities when heavy rains and flooding are predicted. On Wednesday, a driver in Tennessee demonstrated exactly what happens when you disregard a caution.

The motorist had been renovating a property in the Nashville suburb of Spring Hill and was attempting to return home when he saw an impromptu flowing river.

Despite the urgings of close witnesses and a fellow contractor, the driver entered the water, only to have his van swept away by the current and deposited on a creek bank.

“He simply wanted to get home,” Bryan Tucker, a construction worker who captured the video, told Storyful.

When approaching floodwaters, the National Weather Service warned citizens via Twitter to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

The weather service stated, “It’s NEVER worth putting your life in danger.”

According to the National Weather Service, portions of Tennessee received as much as 3 inches of rain in 48 hours due to the storm.
