Urgent product safety warning to the public

The public is being urged by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to cease using heated hairbrushes and dryers because they have the potential to catch fire when used as intended.

The item, which was initially offered under the name “One Step model SM-5250,” was recalled in 2020, but OPSS has since discovered several identical models that are still available through online marketplaces.

People are being urged to verify the design of any hot hairbrushes they may have at home.

They must cease using them right away and get in touch with the seller for a refund if they have a similar design to the recalled device, even if they are sold under a different brand.

After testing models it recently bought from internet markets, OPSS is issuing this urgent warning to the general public.

All were discovered to be non-compliant, and several of them even caught fire while being tested.

While this is happening, OPSS is in contact with suppliers to demand that they stop marketing these and other risky models.

Graham Russell, CEO of OPSS, said:

Because we feel there is a genuine risk that using these items could result in serious injury, OPSS is issuing this urgent warning to the general public.

We are currently looking into the topic of why they are still on the market two years after the initial recall.
