This week, a fellow straphanger attacked a rider in Manhattan by slicing his face in with a razor in an unprovoked assault, according to authorities.

According to authorities, the brutal assault happened Tuesday night at at 9:45 p.m. as the northbound 2 train was nearing the 72nd Street-Broadway subway station.

Police claim that a 49-year-old man was struck across the face with a razor by an unknown person who approached him while he was seated in the train car.

To get medical attention for a cut across his nose, the sufferer was transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital. His status was classified as stable.

The alleged slasher is seen in a short security video and photographic images released by the NYPD on Thursday. In order to identify the individual, police are seeking assistance from the public.

In addition to a grey hooded sweatshirt, he was last spotted leaving the metro station sporting a black coat. He had a top bun in his black hair.

There have been no arrests as of Friday morning.

The NYPD’s most recent figures show that late November transit offenses increased by more than 33% when compared to the same time last year.

However, MTA Chief Executive Officer Janno Lieber refuted claims of a crime wave in the city’s transportation network on Monday by citing a decline in incidences over the previous 28 days.

On Spectrum News NY1’s “Inside City Hall,” Lieber said about subterranean crimes, “In the month of November, this is key, we’re really down 13%.”
