University of Benin (UNIBEN) Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering Postgraduate Programmes Admission Form for 2023/2024 Academic Session

Application forms for the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering postgraduate studies for the 2023/2024 academic session are now available.

In 2012, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, operator of the NNPC/Shell/TotalEnergies/Agip JV, and the University of Benin created the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering (CoE), University of Benin, under a Trust Deed and Governance Framework. The academic year 2013/2014 marked the start of academic activities.

The purpose of the Centre’s integrated programmes is to produce graduates with specialised knowledge in essential geosciences and petroleum engineering fields, such as exploration, appraisal, development, production, and value creation in the Oil and Gas and Allied industries.

At the time of graduation, students would have acquired the skills essential to perform successfully as young oil and gas industry professionals. The training courses offered by the Centre equip graduates with current knowledge of concepts and skills, current technologies and processes, and the capacity to adapt to changing needs in the dynamic, technologically-driven oil and gas sector and related disciplines.

In addition, the programmes offer leadership training to equip graduates for the interdisciplinary approach necessary to tackle subsurface challenges in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering. The curriculum and implementation of the courses are carried out utilising a well-structured, robust collaboration between academics and industry.

The Center has graduated seven (7) sets totalling 102 students to far. 44% have tenured technical jobs in large Nigerian oil and gas businesses, while 23% are employed in academia. The remainder are government employees or private practitioners.
