Umzinto actress Ashrika Seeripat’s domestic worker accused of her murder abandons bail application

The domestic worker of Umzinto actress Ashrika Seeripat, who is accused of her murder, has abandoned her bail application.

The 42-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death during a home robbery. The incident happened on July 7, 2022. Seeripat and her domestic helper were attacked at gunpoint by unknown men, according to provincial South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

They allegedly demanded money from the males. Seeripat’s body was discovered on the side of a bed, according to Constable Ngcobo.

Ngcobo said, “It is suspected that the victim was suffocated. Her body was found lying on the side of the bed”.

Soon after, the actress’s 54-year-old domestic worker was arrested and charged with murder. According to reports, she appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on Friday, July 22, for a formal bail application.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the KZN National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), revealed that Seeripat’s domestic helper dropped her bail application. The case has been rescheduled until the first week of August.

According to IOL, Seeripat’s sister disclosed that their father, Ramjathan, died on July 1, 2021. Seeripat was not married and had no children, she explained. The 42-year-old actress appeared in the local movie, Broken Promises 2.
