UK students protest against new rules governing use of toilets

Across secondary schools in England, students are protesting against new rules governing the use of toilets, with some demanding an end to bans on using toilets during class times and girls being required to show a ‘red card’ while on their period.

Protests have erupted at several schools, including Penrice Academy in Cornwall, where tables have been overturned and fences are broken.

Similarly, at Farnley Academy in Leeds, students and parents gathered outside the school to express their discontent with the new policy of locking toilet doors during lesson time, which they described as violating their human rights.

Meanwhile, Haven High Academy in Lincolnshire has also faced protests, with students denouncing the new rules as akin to ‘prison rules’.

Videos of the protests have been widely shared on social media, with some parents expressing concern that the situation has spiralled out of control, leading to injuries and property damage.

The schools involved have been approached for comment but have not yet responded.

These protests follow similar discontent over uniform policies at Rainford High School in St Helens, Merseyside.

Some students and parents are outraged by the strict knee-length skirt policy and the alleged humiliation of students who fail to adhere to the rules.
