UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’s call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz | 7 September 2022


On September 7, 2022, the Prime Minister talked with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The leaders highlighted the energy problems posed by Putin’s illegitimate war to the United Kingdom and its European allies. Both parties agreed that energy resiliency and independence are essential.

The United Kingdom and Germany are significant economic partners, and the Prime Minister has shown interest in expanding defence cooperation between the two nations.

Regarding the Northern Ireland Protocol, the Prime Minister made it clear that the protection of peace and stability in Northern Ireland and adherence to the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement are her top priorities. She emphasised the significance of resolving the basic flaws with the Protocol’s current wording.

In the coming months, the Prime Minister expressed her eagerness to work closely with Chancellor Scholz.
