— Cape Town Next year’s Two Oceans Marathon, the most famous road race in Western Cape, will be held on April 15 and 16.

Friday, race organizers announced that the 2023 edition of the competition will again span two days, with the ultramarathon slated for Saturday and the half marathon set for Sunday.

This will be the first time since 1973 that the race does not occur around the Easter holiday.

William Swartbooi, chairman of the Two Oceans Marathon, stated, “After extensive conversations and negotiations, it is gratifying to be able to present the many runners, including our international athletes, with the clarification they have been seeking.”

Moving to a new location is never simple. While we cannot please everyone, we have done our best to take into account all factors, of which there were many. Building on the success of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon 2022, we anticipate that the 2023 edition of our globally renowned marathon will be even better.”

The relocation away from Easter weekend is a watershed moment for the Two Oceans Marathon, he noted. It was not an easy decision, but it was important to future-proof the event and position it for expansion. We feel we made the most practical option possible to produce the best results not only in 2023, but also in the short-, medium-, and long-term future of the race.”
