Trevor Noah Tears Up During His Final ‘Daily Show’ Taping

After seven years as the presenter of The Daily Show, comedian Trevor Noah has officially said goodbye to his late night program, leaving his audience in tears as he thanked his fans and paid respect to Black women in his farewell monologue.

Noah, who took over Jon Stewart’s Comedy Central show in 2015, said earlier this year that he would be quitting his hosting position. During his final recording, which aired on Thursday, December 8th, Noah dedicated a chunk of the broadcast to his audience, expressing his “gratitude” for their support throughout the years.

“I appreciate each and every one of you,” he told the gathering. When the performance first began, it was impossible to get enough people to fill an audience.

Then, he said, “I no longer take this for granted. I am always appreciative of every seat that has ever been full to observe anything I’m doing because I am aware of the vacant seat that lies behind it. Thank you to those who watch, those who share the clips, everyone who has expressed an opinion, and everyone who has been polite and kind, even if it’s a criticism.”

Noah acknowledged people who “hate-watch” and joked that he “still earned the ratings” before concluding his statement with a “special shoutout” to Black women.

He began, “I’ve often been credited with these great ideas.” “Who do you believe instructs me, who do you believe has fashioned, nurtured, and educated me?”

Noah, whose eyes filled with tears, continued, “I usually tell people that if they want to discover the truth about America, they should speak with Black women. Because, unlike everyone else, Black women cannot afford to experiment and discover the truth. Black folks comprehend the difficulty of adverse circumstances.”

Noah will remain active with his new Netflix special, Trevor Noah: I Wish You Would, which debuted in late November, and his upcoming tour, which begins in January 2023.

On January 17, The Daily Show will return to Comedy Central. While a permanent replacement for Noah has not yet been announced, Deadline reports that Leslie Jones, Chelsea Handler, and Kal Penn will serve as guest hosts in his absence.
