Toni Braxton, the Grammy-winning artist, has disclosed that she had to undergo surgery to have a stent placed in her heart last Autumn.

This was amid a complication she experienced during her lifelong struggle with lupus.

Braxton revealed that last September, doctors found that her “left main coronary artery was 80 percent blocked.”

According to the singer, the doctors told her that she could have had a massive heart attack, and that she would not have survived.

Traumatic Moment

In an interview with People magazine, the 55-year-old singer disclosed that the surgery was a traumatic moment for her.

She stated that she was in shock when she found out that she needed a coronary stent.

Braxton recalled that her chest was hurting often, and she thought it was due to the loss of her sister.

Unfortunately, Traci Braxton, the star’s sister, died of esophageal cancer in March of 2022.

Underlying Health Issues

The singer added that she was also experiencing underlying health issues.

She stated that her body was telling her something was not quite right.

Lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation that can affect several different body systems, including the heart, kidneys, blood cells, brain, joints, skin, and lungs, has plagued the singer throughout her decades-long career.

Improved Health

Braxton stated that her health has improved significantly since the surgery, and she now makes sure that she does not put off any tests, as she has done in the past.

She said that when her body tells her to take it down and relax, she has to listen to it.

Braxton is involved in the Get Uncomfortable campaign to raise awareness for Lupus in May.

On Tuesday, she shared her work with the campaign on Instagram.
