“Three times more qualifications than their parents to occupy the same career”

“Three times more qualifications than their parents to occupy the same career”

According to studies, children will need three times as many credentials as their parents had to qualify for the same employment.

Generation Z, those born between the middle of the 1990s and the year 2010, are the most educated generation in the UK, with 80% planning to finish higher education. Those Boomers, or those who were born between 1946 and 1964, make up just 15% of the population.

According to a research, just 4% of Boomers in senior roles earning over £70,000 yearly earned O-Levels or a comparable course of education.

But 62% of Gen Z students want to enroll in college and get an honors degree or a postgraduate degree, like a master’s.

In actuality, Gen Z students spend at least six years in school on average.

Youngsters will have 'three times as many qualifications as their parents to hold the same job'

With one-third of respondents reporting that they needed additional industry-specific credentials for an entry-level job, the younger generation is likewise subject to high expectations from the labor market.

Qualifications are more important than ever before for entering the profession, according to Robbie Bryant of Open Study College, which performed the study.

In contrast, over 90% of boomers say that they had no educational requirements at all for their first job and that they were able to acquire it with ease in 85% of cases.

Eighty percent of baby boomers indicated the credentials they already had were completely unrelated to their employment, and almost one-third said they had no interest in earning more education.

On the other hand, Gen Z is bargaining for better salary than their parents, with 60% anticipating a wage raise after just six months on the job.

The survey, which was carried out by independent education provider Open Study College, discovered that the main factor leading Gen Z to change occupations is if they are given the opportunity to make more money elsewhere.

Most entry-level occupations, according to Mr. Bryant, need a university degree or additional credentials beyond accreditation at the college level. Due to the significant focus on education and studying, some individuals feel that the conventional system of education is ineffective.

Online learning could be an alternative for people who struggle in a conventional classroom setting. You may now finish challenging courses like the CIPD or ACCA credentials online thanks to the abundance of wonderful internet resources.

“We should also encourage firms to explore beyond grades and credentials to locate exceptional talented individuals that they could teach themselves or for whom they could give training courses,” the report adds.
