The talented actor who portrays Koloi in Skeem Saam, Tshepo Senatle, says he can identify to his role because he was also robbed in Johannesburg.

Koloi Tshivambu, portrayed by the well-known Skeem Saam actor Tshepo Senatle, was recently robbed in Johannesburg and had his belongings stolen.

Senatle tells Drum Magazine that he can connect to a quarter of the present plot when Koloi traveled to the City of Gold, although he was not robbed and left half-naked.

“I was robbed a few times before I chose to acquire a car because I had always liked to walk. The first time I walked from the Joburg Central Business District to Bree to get a cab, it was around 8 or 9 p.m., and before I got to the taxi queue, I didn’t have my wallet, phone, or cash, and it wasn’t even a violent incident.

“The man was walking behind me when he abruptly began asking for my possessions. It appeared as though he was having a typical chat. He stated that he is the king of Johannesburg and that “this is what we do in Johannesburg.” If you do not give me these items, I will take them myself. I lacked the strength to fight. I gave him the items.

“The second incident occurred throughout the day while I was wearing headphones and listening to music. The phone was in my front pocket as I traversed this crowd of individuals. In my mind, it was impossible for someone to steal my phone without my noticing because it was in front of me. Unfortunately, I knocked into this other guy the same way Koloi did with the garbage man, and after crossing the street, I no longer had my phone.

“The third occurrence occurred around 6 p.m. Work concluded really late, and I was now required to return home. I knew there was a strong likelihood I would be mugged that day because it had happened previously. Someone confronted me, thrust a pointed object at me, and ordered that my pockets be searched.”

Additionally, on “Skeem Saam,” Koloi was robbed by a taxi full of robbers and left naked.

The actor Tshepo Senatle, who portrays Koloi in the SABC1 serial opera Skeem Saam, tells Drum Magazine that he is well aware of the social media uproar Koloi causes.

“I am truly blown away by the responses. I am speechless since it is such a humbling gesture. I am thrilled that people are enjoying Koloi and that they find my portrayal of him engaging and relevant.”

“My greatest obstacle was when Koloi lost his mother, whereas as an actor I still have mine.” I did not know how it felt to lose one’s mother, let alone how to react to such a loss. It was so terrible that I had to attend the funerals of my close friends and family members in order to present this plot. It was eerie.”
