The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will on Wednesday intensify its profiling mandate through a nation-wide civic responsibility campaign

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will launch a nationwide civic responsibility campaign on Wednesday to further its mandate of profiling.

In a statement, SALGA stated that the campaign’s goal is to inform local residents of their responsibilities for contributing to the social and economic development of their communities by paying for municipal services provided.

More information about the campaign will be made available by the SALGA National Executive Committee (NEC), which will also urge people and members of local communities all throughout the nation to actively participate.

The NEC will be located in the Sasol Filling Station in Madiba Park, Limpopo, and the Tshwane Regional Mall in Mamelodi West, Gauteng.

“The campaign launch lends energy to the organization’s goal for the fifth Term of Democratic Local Government, to focus on establishing a people-centered democratic local government,” SALGA spokeswoman Sivuyile Mbambato stated.

The organization’s 2022 National Conference and 2022–2027 strategy plan, which aims to increase local government’s role in promoting the social, economic, and material requirements of their communities, are the inspiration for the campaign.

Additionally, a few places across the nine provinces will host the event.

Delegates from local governments, the federal and provincial governments, as well as partners and stakeholders from the local government industry, will attend the event.

SALGA said that through enabling local government to carry out its developmental duty and acting as a flexible force of influence, it hopes to stimulate service delivery.

“Asisho! Let’s Say It” as the subtitle SALGA seeks to initiate dialogue:

Encourage individuals to take an active role in paying for services so that local government can deliver them effectively.
Encourage the development of a capable, nimble local government that puts the needs of its constituents first.
