The PM has been appointed Rosalind Nashashibi as an Artist Trustee of the Tate

Rosalind Nashashibi has been appointed by the Prime Minister as an Artist Trustee of the Tate for a four-year period beginning 15 April 2022 and ending 14 April 2026.

Rosalind Nashashibi is a Palestinian and Northern Irish filmmaker and painter working in London.

Her films employ both factual and speculative languages, combining observations from her personal life and the environment around her with paintings, fictional or sci-fi components, and frequently offer concepts of communal living.

Her paintings, too, operate on a subjective level, framing arenas or pools of potential where humans or animals can come, frequently sharing the picture plane with their own context of signs and apparitions that hint at their place in relation to the artist.

Nashashibi’s work has been shown at Documenta 14, Manifesta 7, the Nordic Triennial, and Sharjah X. In 2017, she was nominated for the Turner Prize, and in 2003, she won Beck’s Futures prize.

In the 52nd Venice Biennial, she represented Scotland.

Her most recent solo exhibitions have taken place at the Vienna Secession, the CAAC Seville, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Kunstinstuut Melly in Rotterdam. In 2020, she was the National Gallery’s artist in residence.

The Tate’s trustees are not paid. The Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments was followed in making these appointments.

The Commissioner for Public Appointments oversees the appointment process.

Any substantial political action conducted by an appointment in the previous five years must be declared under the Code.

This includes holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, and running for office.

Rosalind Nashashibi has made no public declarations of political engagement.
