The Minister for Women and Equalities has today (24 June) begun recruitment for 3 new Commissioners of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)

Applications are being accepted for the positions starting today and through July 22. The Governance Code for Public Appointments will be followed during the hiring process.

Between November 2022 and January 2023, the hired applicants will begin working in their new positions.

The EHRC is an independent statutory organization whose duties include fostering equality and diversity, combating illegal discrimination, and defending and advancing the human rights of all Britons.

The Minister for Women and Equalities is mandated by law to nominate 10 to 15 Commissioners, including the Chair and the Commissioners for Wales and Scotland, as the Equality Hub sponsors the EHRC.

Commissioners are responsible for working with the Chair and Chief Executive to:

  • set the strategic direction of the EHRC
  • scrutinise the EHRC’s performance
  • support the Chair in holding the Chief Executive to account
