The publisher of Prince Harry’s controversial autobiography “Spare” claimed on Tuesday that it has broken the United Kingdom’s record for the best-selling nonfiction book in history.

Since its formal release on Tuesday, nearly 400,000 copies of “Spare” have been sold in hardback, e-book, and audio versions. “Spare” is Harry’s depiction of his varied personal issues and fractious interactions with other royal family members.

Transworld Penguin Random House Managing Director Larry Finlay said in a statement about the sales record, “We always knew this book would be a success, but it has exceeded even our most optimistic forecasts.”

“As far as we know, the only other books to have sold more copies in their first day were those featuring the other Harry (Potter),” the statement continued.

Harry has aggressively promoted the release of his book, which contains intimate details about his struggle to cope with the death of his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 12 years old, his conflicts with his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, and the friction caused by his marriage to Meghan Markle.

“Spare” features various personal anecdotes about Harry’s life, including the account of how he lost his virginity, his service in the British military during the Afghanistan war, and his own drug use.

In addition to its success in UK bookstores, the book is currently at the top of Amazon’s list of best-selling items.

Harry recalled an occasion in which his brother William allegedly physically beat him during a disagreement about Meghan Markle in a shocking excerpt that leaked before of the book’s release.

Prince Harry asserts that his brother, Prince William, once assaulted him physically.

After William violently slammed Harry to the floor, Harry claimed to have sustained “cuts and bruises.”

Everything happened so quickly. So extremely quick. He grabbed me by the collar and tore off my jewelry before knocking me to the ground. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which shattered beneath my back and pierced me with its shards. “After a moment of unconsciousness, I stood up and told him to leave,” Harry recalls.

Harry’s decision to publish the book has come under considerable scrutiny, with Megyn Kelly and Don Lemon among many who have condemned him.
