The place where the bones were discovered is consistent with where officials have long suspected his convicted killer, Bradley Murdoch, buried his corpse.

Throughout the years, Northern Territory police have conducted repeated searches for the body of the British visitor and remained hopeful.

According to Nine Newspapers, none of the remains unearthed in 2003, 2004, or 2007 were associated with Mr. Falconio.Mr Falconio and girlfriend Joanne Lees were in a campervan driving along the remote Stuart Highway (pictured) on July 14, 2001 when they were pulled over

“We’ve been down this path before, so we’re not jumping to conclusions,” a detective from the Northern Territory said.

The age and position of the bones discovered last week are consistent with Mr. Falconio’s case, according to the police.

Using DNA and dental data, forensic specialists will determine if the items belong to the traveler.

Murdoch has refused to disclose the location of the body to law enforcement and has maintained his innocence.
