William Kamket, a member of parliament of Tiaty, was cleared of all charges of inciting violence by the Chief Magistrate’s court in Nakuru.
Edna Nyaloti, the chief magistrate, declared that the prosecution had not established a case against the legislator.
More than nine months after the MP was detained in July 2021, she noted that the prosecution has yet to present any witnesses in the case.
The MP was accused of inciting violence in Laikipia, which resulted in casualties and damage to property.
Nyaloti noted that because it is an election year, instances involving hate speech against politicians must be expedited.
Bernard Ng’etich, Kamket’s attorney, announced that he would submit a petition accusing the State of harassing his client.
He declared that he will seek Sh100 million in damages to make up for the pain and suffering that his client has endured since his imprisonment for almost a year.
Ng’etich described how Kamket had psychological and bodily distress while being transported from Baringo in a police vehicle and detained at the Kaptembwa Police Station.
