The Call for an Igbo Senate President in Nigeria

…Researched and contributed by Larry John.

Since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, the Igbo ethnic group has been vying for the presidential seat but has been unsuccessful in achieving this goal.

This has resulted in tensions, aggressions, and civic unrest among the Igbo and other concerned Nigerians.

However, in pursuing their ambition to produce the number one citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, wisdom must be employed.

Political analysts of national status have called for the President-elect, the 10th Senate, and the APC leadership to consider the South East in electing the next Senate President.

The President-elect’s acceptance speech emphasized unity, justice, peace, and tolerance.

The call to action is to be tolerant, not high-handed, loving and inclusive, not fixated on hatred.

This is a time of healing and building, not causing more unrest and injury.

The Igbo Youth, under the aegis of Osike Youth and Friends, has called on the President, President-Elect, APC central leadership, and concerned citizens to consciously act now in zoning the number three position not only to a Christian but of Igbo descent.

This is in response to the unique third force of Igbo descent and the general dissatisfaction of the election outcome.

It is important to pacify the situation by bringing a very experienced legislature to lead the 10th Senate, who is not only of Igbo origin but also a nationalist to the core.

Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu(MON), the erstwhile governor of mineral-rich Abia State, is presented as the Igbo choice of Senate President.

Kalu has made a trajectory in governance, with astounded achievements as the ACTION GOVERNOR OF NIGERIA by the then President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

He is one Igbo politician whose national appeal truly cuts across the six geopolitical zones.

Kalu is a known sports enthusiast with local and international relevance, which will boost the national sports sector.

As the incumbent Senate Chief Whip of the 9th assembly, he is a figure with erudite and indepth knowledge.

Kalu does not only have legislative experience but also executive experience as the youngest 1999 executive governor.

He will make a smooth legislative – executive relationship.

Kalu has deep involvement in the Njiko Igbo movement, whose main aim is to secure the presidency of Igbo extraction.

His political quest has a nexus with love for Igbo emancipation.

He stewarded Nigerian commercial relations with China’s SinoPacific shipbuilding while serving as a principal of SLOK Holding.

He also headed First International Bank Limited at the age of 33.

The Igbo Youth supports Kalu for Senate President and advocates for the incoming government not to leave Ndi-Igbo behind in choosing its workforce in line with Federal Character Principles as it gets set to hit the wheel of governance running.
