Lawrence Maleka, who portrays Zolani Dlamini on 1 Magic’s serial The River, has written a poignant letter to his followers.
Last Thursday, Maleka made his final appearance on the drama as his character abruptly left the show.
The actor praised his followers for instilling him with confidence and for fostering his ideal combination of self-deception.
“With this character, many of you saw loved ones, siblings, and friends, as well as fond and painful memories,” he wrote. “You celebrate me because I am of you.”
The station announced last week that the opera will be ending. Hlomla Dandala and Tango Ncetezo are other actors who have left the series.
The show premiered in 2018 and aired over 1,200 episodes; its influence extended beyond South African boundaries. The show has won 26 out of 31 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) over the years.
